A study published on October 17, 2023 and co-edited by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) has just shed light on the percentage of patent and\/or trademark applications by start-ups at European level, and its impact on obtaining financing.<\/p>\n
While the overall European average is 29%, Swiss start-ups have a higher filing percentage of 32 % (patents and trademarks combined). French and Finnish start-ups top the list of applicants, with each accounting for 42% of start-ups having filed an industrial property right (patents and trademarks combined). Other countries with a significant percentage are Germany (40%), Austria (40%), Italy (39%), Norway (37%), Sweden (34%), Denmark (34%), Switzerland (32%) and the Czech Republic (31%).<\/p>\n
In terms of patent and\/or trademark applications by sector of activity, the three most represented fields are: biotechnology, followed by science and engineering, then healthcare and manufacturing, which are almost at the same level.<\/p>\n
