It is worth noting that the unitary patent system currently serves as the modality for obtaining a single means of uniform protection across all of the 17 countries of the European Union that have ratified the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court (\u2018UPC Agreement\u2019), based on the European patent granted by the European Patent Office (EPO).<\/p>\n<p>The unitary patent has been a great success over the first year of its entry into force. In fact, around one in four European patents granted by the European Patent Office (EPO) has been converted into a unitary patent.
