GLOBAL INNOVATION INDEX 2024 – SWITZERLAND TOPS THE LEADERBOARD YET AGAIN

The 17th edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII) – the global benchmark that rates the performance of countries by “their capacity for, and success in, innovation” – has just been published by the World Intellectual Property Organization, in partnership with the Portulans Institute, various private partners and a network of universities (Source: WIPO).

The 2024 rankings are based on 81 indicators of innovation and feature 133 competing economies (assessed according to their innovation ecosystem performance).

Once again this year, Switzerland has retained its position as leader, ahead of 2nd-placed Sweden (runner-up also in 2023) and 3rd-placed United States of America (3rd also in 2023). It is worth noting that Switzerland has consistently topped the leaderboard since 2010.

Switzerland’s closest European Union neighbours, who are ranked in the top 20 of this index, include: Germany in 9th place (8th in 2023), France in 12th place (11th in 2023) and Austria in 17th place (18th in 2023).
