OAPI ACCEDES TO THE GENEVA ACT OF THE LISBON AGREEMENT

On March 15, 2023, the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement for the International Protection of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications entered into force for the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI). (Source: World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) – December 16, 2022).

OAPI currently has 17 member States: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

The appellations of origin and geographical indications of the OAPI member States will thus be protected at the international level by a single, simpler and less costly registration in all the contracting parties of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement.

As a reminder, Switzerland joined this same Act in 2021
