PATENTS IN THE FIELD OF GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (GENERATIVE IA)

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has published a new report on patents in the field of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), which highlights a significant increase in inventions in this domain (54,000 GenAI-related patent applications since 2013, with more than 25% of these being filed in 2023 alone).

Generative artificial intelligence enables users to create content (text, music, images, videos, computer code, etc.).

The top five countries with the highest number of GenAI-related patents filed are China (38,210 GenAI inventions), the United States of America (6,276), the Republic of Korea (4,155), Japan (3,409), and India (1,350).
