THE PROTECTION OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS IN THE EUROPEAN UNION
In the context of the revision of EU law on the legal protection of designs (Directive 98/71/EC of October 13, 1998 and Regulation 6/2002/EC of December 12, 2001), the European Commission has just presented new rules.
The main objective of the new rules is to simplify the current procedures for registering a design at EU level and to ensure the compatibility of EU rules with national rules. The proposals should also “allow the reproduction of original designs for spare parts of complex products” (Source press release European Commission – November 11, 2022).
